Está focado inicialmente em 16 municípios do Médio Rio das Contas, região identificada como um dos Territórios de Identidade do Estado da Bahia: Aiquara, Apuarema, Barra do Rocha, Boa Nova, Dário Meira, Gongoji, Ibirataia, Ipiaú, Itagi, Itagibá, Itamari, Jequié, Jitaúna, Manoel Vitorino, Nova Ibiá e Ubatã – área equivalente a 10.033 km² e com um total de 367.991 habitantes. O projeto, com o título Universidade Aberta no Médio Rio das Contas, foi o primeiro colocado da lista dos 26 projetos selecionados pelo edital Territórios Culturais, da Secretaria Estadual de Cultura. As primeiras ações complementam o projeto “Um Passarinho Me Contou...”, já iniciado no Valentim, distrito do município de Boa Nova, e são orientadas com base em três eixos:

Fase de sistematização do patrimônio material e imaterial da região, tendo o cuidado de incluir o olhar da comunidade sobre ela mesma, seu contexto ambiental e cultural. O uso de novas tecnologias e de recursos audiovisuais contribuirá para a pesquisa documental e produção de ampla iconografia. O conteúdo é sistematizado no formato digital de CD-ROMs.

A partir do material produzido será estabelecido um processo de educação contínua no qual o conhecimento sistematizado pode ser trabalhado dentro e fora das regiões, favorecendo sua difusão. Inclui a capacitação em escolas, associações e instituições dos municípios abordados, com a elaboração de um plano coletivo de desenvolvimento sustentável.

Fase de difusão das ações realizadas nas duas primeiras etapas, promovendo o diálogo dentro e fora da região. A realização anual de um Congresso–Festival visa estabelecer um encontro com as artes e as ciências fortalecendo o entendimento da importância da biodiversidade e celebrando a diversidade cultural.

Phase of systemizing of the region’s material and immaterial heritage, caring to include the community’s view over itself, its environmental and cultural context. Using new technologies and audiovisual resources will contribute to the documental research and production of vast iconography. The contents are systemized through digital formats as CDROMs.

From the produced material a continuous education process will be established, where the systemized knowledge can be utilized in and outside the regions, favoring its diffusion. Includes capacitating in schools, associations and institutions from the addressed counties, with the elaboration of a collective plan of sustainable development.

Phase to disseminate the actions carried through the first two stages, promoting dialogue in and outside the region. The annual organization of a Congress-Festival seeks to create an encounter between arts and sciences, strengthening the understanding of the importance of biodiversity and celebrating cultural diversity.
